Global New Material International (GNMI), one of China's leading suppliers of pearlescent pigments, has completed the acquisition of Merck KGaA's Surface Solutions business. The business is now called Susonity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The transaction was completed on July 31, 2025, with the transfer of ownership to Merck KGaA, in a deal valued at 665 million euros in cash.<\/p>

Susonity is headquartered in Gernsheim, Germany. The company is a market leader in high-end effect pigments and active ingredients for automotive, cosmetics and industrial applications. With a strong global presence and a well-established international sales network, Susonity is also renowned for its capacity for innovation and technical expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Susonity employs around 1,100 people worldwide, including over 600 in Germany. Its main production sites are located in Germany, Japan and the USA. As part of its global strategy, the company plans to establish regional headquarters in the EMEA, North America and Asia-Pacific regions, supported by a strong international production presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
