On Monday October 3, Japanese biologist Yoshinori Ohsumi was awarded the 2016 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for elucidating the biological mechanism of autophagy, a powerful process for degrading and recycling cell constituents. His research has highlighted autophagy's role in a number of pathologies and in aging.<\/p>\n
