Acti Pack to present its new products at All4Pack

ActiPack_PET_bottles_jars

Saint-Etienne-based packaging manufacturer Acti Pack manufactures PET and rPET containers at a site shared with Loire Plastic Industrie, a subsidiary of the same Axium Packaging group. A specialist in jars, squeezers and bottles for over 30 years, Acti Pack offers the eco-designed Isil range, produced in partnership with Loire Plastic Industrie, the plastic injection specialist behind the closure solutions.

Acti Pack will be unveiling new packaging exclusively at the All4Pack trade show in Paris, November 4-7, 2024.

Bay's PET jars, designed for the hygiene-beauty and food markets, feature a timeless designer with a cylindrical shape. This line is developed on a 70SP400 screw-on ring that allows a wide opening. Available in recyclable PET material, and able to incorporate up to 100 % of recycled PET material, this new eco-designed range from Loire Plastic Industrie features a new PP cap for complete packaging in a reduced-weight version. "The 'jar/cap' pairing is as optimal as possible, with a weight reduction of over 50 % compared to our current equivalent wide-mouth models. Available initially in 200ml format, additional capacities from 100ml to 300ml are planned in the near future.says Acti Pack.

The other new product from the two industrial partners is the Vao 250 ml model and the new Nove bi-color cap. The slender design of the Vao model is in harmony with the associated Nove cap. The usual gentle curves of Acti Pack's bottle ranges give way to a more geometric design with assertive angles. The edges of the Nove cap are extended into the Vao bottle, creating a balanced whole.

Available in recyclable PET material, and able to incorporate up to 100 % of recycled PET material, this new Vao 250 ml model is easy to handle and features a large communication surface suitable for packaging hygiene products such as shower gels or shampoos for private label markets.

The bottle and cap assembly is 100 % recyclable. Acti Pack has been committed for many years to respecting and protecting the environment, and to eco-design of its packaging.

To support its customers, the company offers alternative solutions using eco-responsible materials. All its ranges of standard or specific PET jars, squeezers and bottles are available in RPET recycled material. Depending on customer requirements, products can be manufactured in 25 %, 50 % or 100 % recycled PET. "RPET is certified for food contact and remains a 100 % recyclable material!stresses the manufacturer.

"We are also committed to offering lightweight solutions to our customers in order to reduce the weight of our packaging as much as possible, while retaining the properties required for product packaging. Today, we offer packaging with weight reductions ranging from 15 % to 25 %, depending on the product, while maintaining the quality demanded by our customers.he adds. We have been ISO 9001 and FSSC22000 certified for many years.

Typology joins forces with Groupe GM to create a hotel line

GM Group - Typology

Specialist in international hospitality products, Groupe GM has announced its collaboration with French skincare brand Typology.

Typology is launching its very first hotel line, building on its status as a "digital native" brand, renowned for its short, effective and minimalist formulations, and its ingredients that respect health and the environment.

This new hotel line combines minimalist formulations with a high natural content, presented in environmentally-friendly packaging that enhances the brand's aesthetic appeal.

The packaging for this new Typology line reflects the brand's DNA, with monochrome color schemes, clean lines and design elements with a modern aesthetic.

The hotel line's fragrance offers top notes of orange and mandarin, "blending into delicate heart notes of mandarin blossom and jasmine petals, anchored by a warm base of vanilla and woody musk. This composition creates a welcoming, memorable ambience that resonates with the sophisticated traveler," says Groupe GM.

Clean formulations

Tested under dermatological control, the formulas in this new line are PEG-, sulfate- and silicone-free. They are also certified vegan, GMO-free, gluten-free, RSPO-certified for solid soaps, and contain up to 98 % of natural ingredients.

Each formula is enriched with panthenol (vitamin B5), appreciated for its moisturizing properties, and camellia extract, recognized for its nourishing benefits. In addition, the body lotion is reinforced with shea butter, recognized for its nutritive qualities.

Sustainable packaging

Typology products are offered in eco-responsible packaging, such as the patented Ecofill large-format dispenser, designed to be durable, clean and practical. This 300 ml refillable aluminum dispenser uses recyclable, sealed 8 g monoplastic pouches to prevent bacterial contamination, guaranteeing product quality and traceability. The "Stay Clean" system optimizes the refilling process, increases housekeeping efficiency and maintains high standards of hygiene and quality.

The Ghost dispenser is also part of the range. In a new, modern rectangular shape specially designed for this line, this GM Group t container matches the Typology brand identity. Made from recycled plastic, it is mounted on a concealed rail to create a "floating" visual effect, enhancing bathroom aesthetics.

Small-format products such as recycled plastic bottles and aluminum tubes complete the line.

The Typology hotel line is part of Groupe GM's "Care about Earth" program, reflecting a commitment to eco-responsibility.

"We are delighted to be working with such a renowned skincare brand as Typology and equally proud that they have trusted us to launch their first hotel line. This partnership will enable us to introduce more eco-responsible hospitality products to our customers, while respecting the level of luxury and quality expected from Groupe GM. Lyb completes acquisition of solvent-based recycling specialist APK

Lyb - APK

Specializing in plastics, chemicals and refining, American multinational LyondellBasell, Lyb, announces that it has finalized the acquisition of Merseburg, Germany-based APK.

"We are delighted to finalize the acquisition of APK, a company specializing in solvent-based recycling technologies. This operation secures the future of more than a hundred employees and provides us with a new solution to meet our customers' ambitions and objectives in terms of circularity, says Yvonne van der Laan, Lyb's Executive Vice President for Circular and Low-Carbon Solutions. This technology complements our excellent mechanical recycling technology, as well as our proprietary advanced recycling technology. We see it as a key addition to our portfolio as we move towards a circular economy, which will help put an end to plastic waste."

Following the laying of the foundation stone for its first MoReTec advanced catalytic recycling plant in Wesseling, Germany, on September 19, the acquisition of APK is another step towards meeting the growing demand for more sustainable solutions.

PBK's recycling technology is a solvent-based technology for low-density polyethylene (LDPE). Lyb aims to accelerate the recycling of hard-to-recycle soft plastic waste, which today makes up the bulk of mixed plastic waste from the consumer sector. The materials produced will be marketed under Lyb's Circulen range.

In March 2023, Lyb unveiled its new corporate strategy aimed at committing to sustainable development. The company has drawn up ambitious plans to create access to best-in-class innovative and differentiated technologies as a key element of its new strategy, and has formed a dedicated Circular and Low Carbon Solutions (CLCS) business. CLCS has begun to make substantial upstream investments in plastic waste sorting and recycling operations in Europe, the USA and Asia.

Cosmetic 360 Awards: time for innovation!

Cosmetic 360 Awards

At the 10th Cosmetic 360 trade show, held in Paris on October 16 and 17, 2024, seven companies were honored by a jury of journalists from the French and international trade press.

The jury met to select the most avant-garde innovations from among the 350 exhibitors' products, in six categories. A special "Coup de Coeur" award was also considered for the best "longevity-durability" innovation, the theme of this year's show.

Winner in the "raw materials" category, Seprify was rewarded for its cellulose-based complexion enhancer as an alternative to titanium dioxide. Seprify has developed a cellulose-based ingredient with properties similar to those of titanium dioxide, the fruit of 10 years' research. The startup aims to offer a natural, more sustainable alternative to heavy metal oxides. Although not yet registered as a pigment, this multifunctional ingredient of plant origin matifies, smoothes texture, provides a soft-focus effect and whitens.

Global Beauty Consulting (GBC) was the winner in the "formulation" category. Its foundation beauty sponge won over the jury. GBC has designed a product that becomes its own applicator! By transposing techniques from other sectors, such as wet granulation and extrusion, the company was able to give its highly natural foundation formula the consistency of an applicator sponge. This is applied directly to the skin by tapping, as with a make-up sponge, for a second-skin finish. This hybrid product is the result of an energy-efficient cold manufacturing process.

In the "testing & analysis" category, Revivo BioSystems won an award for its chronological aging testing platform with 4D skin model. The testing platform in vitro Revivo BioSystems' automated organ-on-a-chip system uses a perfusion system that mimics blood microcirculation under reconstituted skin. This physiological 4D skin model makes it possible to monitor chronological aging, without oxidative stress, and to assess the anti-aging efficacy of ingredients and formulations.

In the "packaging & packing" category, BR Conditionnement won an award for its BRC niugreen dry cleaning process for perfume bottles. This water-free cleaning process for glass bottles uses supercritical CO2 (bio-CO2 from methanization), a cleaning agent widely used in the medical field. This solvent ensures sterilization while preserving the integrity of the container and the silkscreen. BR Conditionnement cleans crimped-pump perfume bottles for reuse, in compliance with the microbiological requirements of Good Manufacturing Practice.

Awarded in the "brands & retail" category, Amoi offers mood-boosting scents. Based on neuroscience, the Amoi line of fragrances has been developed to boost the wearer's emotional state. Relaxation, focus, joy or energy, the composition of each fragrance is based on the ability of certain molecules to stimulate neurotransmitters. Their effect on mood has been measured by a specialized independent laboratory.

Winner in the "manufacturing process" category: Arboretum Ingredients for its patented, environmentally-friendly ultrasonic extraction process, using ultrasonic equipment and tree sap as natural Nades.

For its part, Greentech was awarded the special "Coup de Coeur" prize for Timelys, an active ingredient that stimulates longevity genes derived from the study of adaptogenic plants. These plants represent a breeding ground for molecules with longevity-prolonging properties for the skin. Greentech was interested in the Schisandra chinensis whose berries play an important role in traditional Asian medicine. The company has extracted Timelys, an active ingredient concentrated in schisandrin, whose global action stimulates the expression of longevity genes and optimizes interconnected skin cell functions. By targeting the various markers of skin longevity (autophagy, mitochondrial metabolism, reduced inflammation, skin barrier, etc.), Timelys preserves and restores, according to Greentech, better skin quality over time. The studies in vitro and clinical studies (three cohorts) show improved hydration and radiance, smoother skin texture and reduced wrinkles.

Bacfarm, winner of Shiseido's fibona EMEA Open Innovation program

Bacfarm-Shiseido

Japanese cosmetics group Shiseido has announced the results of the second edition of its EMEA Open Innovation program, fibona.

The young Italian company Bacfarm won over the ten-strong jury, which included members of the Shiseido Executive Committee as well as experts from the beauty and innovation sectors. The innovative solution presented by the winning startup will be tested in prototype form for the Gallinée brand's skincare range.

For this second edition, six startups from around the world were selected from 60 applications. The aim of the competition: to develop new sustainable suncare products, through innovations in UV filters and protection boosters.

In 2024, the global market for sun protection products will increase by almost $7.9 billion compared to 2023. This growth is linked to the fact that consumers are increasingly aware of the need to protect their skin.

Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the need to use products that respect the environment. With the fibona program, Shiseido aims to meet the challenges and expectations of the market.

A spin-off from the University of Cagliari in Italy, Bacfarm is an innovative biotech start-up founded by Giulia Guadalupi, Samuele Antonio Gaviano and Davide Emilio Lobina. The company draws on its specific know-how and patents to commercialize new molecules extracted from bacteria.

These versatile ingredients, with their antioxidant, filtering, coloring and other properties, can be used in the design of cosmetics, nutraceuticals and animal feed, among others.

Bacfarm is responding to growing demand from European and global markets for raw materials from alternative, sustainable sources. "We are very honored to have been selected by the Shiseido group as part of its Open Innovation program, fibona. Having the opportunity to present our solution in front of a panel of industry experts has really taken us to the next level, says Giulia Guadalupi, CEO and co-founder of Bacfarm. Having the opportunity to prototype our solution for the Gallinée brand will not only bring visibility to our project, but will also help us share all our research with a wider audience. The Gallinée brand has inspired us from day one, so working with Dr Marie Drago will be a unique opportunity."

"This program is a great opportunity to create the beauty products of tomorrow. There's a lot going on in beauty and science, and the race for the best sustainable suncare products is spearheading it. Partnering with other founders and the next generation of innovators is what Gallinée is all about."comments Marie Drago, founder and Creative Director of Gallinée.

Open Innovation fibona is a program initiated by Shiseido's Global Innovation Center (GIC) in 2019. It is coordinated by the European Innovation Center (EIC), based in France's Cosmetic Valley in Ormes (45). The EMEA edition follows on from the program's success in Asia, with a focus on accelerating innovation strategy and sustainability.

Licorice pomace to inhibit inflammation

Licorice

Active Concepts presents AC ExoCalm, the latest innovation in its range of natural bio-authentic exosomes, designed to inhibit inflammation and promote overall skin health. AC ExoCalm reduces pro-inflammatory cytokines to relieve irritated skin.

Active Concepts harnesses the potential of licorice pomace, characterized by glycyrrhetinic acid, for its well-known antioxidant, softening and antimicrobial activities. The company has teamed up with a renowned licorice producer in Calabria, where the microclimate of the Sibari plain and the nutrient-rich clay soils create a favorable environment for this root to flourish, to recover the pomace, the solid residue left when licorice root is extracted.

In 2023, the company launched its BioAuthentic Exosomes, all-natural vesicles functionally identical to exosomes, extracted from natural sources and targeting specific benefits. By encapsulating actives held together by proteins for better stabilization, these natural delivery systems guarantee enhanced activity of personal care benefits, according to the company.

Inflammation of the skin is a common problem for many people, leading to red patches, redness and loss of self-confidence. BioAuthentic Exosomal aims to deliver inflammatory benefits by making active ingredients more bioavailable.

Global Bioenergies abandons cosmetics plant project

Global Bioenergies

Global Bioenergies produces a biobased isobutene offering an alternative to petroleum-derived isobutene. The company announces that it has been unable to finance its 2,500-ton plant dedicated to the cosmetics market, in a general context described by the company as highly unfavorable to the financing of industrial firsts.

Global Bioenergies now wishes to focus its activities primarily on the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with a model of industrial partnerships.

"Despite all our efforts over the last few months, and in the conviction that we have presented the most mature case possible, we have come to the realization that we are unable to finance our plant project. Like all industrial firsts, this project necessarily involves risks at various levels. The prospect of a significant return on investment linked to the cosmetics market should have helped convince private investors to commit to the project, but we have to admit that this is not enough under current political, economic and financial conditions. Today, infrastructure investors are limited to less risky industrial replica projects.1 and projects more directly focused on energy markets", says Samuel Dubruque, Chief Financial Officer of Global Bioenergies.

"Global Bioenergies regrets that this project has not been carried out, and draws the necessary conclusions: the Company will not be carrying out its own plant project in the short or medium term, and will focus all its efforts on a partnership model. The intrinsic value of the process developed by Global Bioenergies is not diminished by the non-realization of this first industrial project designed to meet the needs of the niche cosmetics market. Our main ambition remains to produce much larger volumes of SAF, in order to reduce the carbon footprint of the aviation sector and combat global warming, now an absolute priority. To achieve this, a technology partnership is the best way forward.explains Marc Delcourt, the company's co-founder and CEO.

The technology developed by Global Bioenergies to produce isobutene from natural resources is one of the solutions certified by ASTM, a global standards organization. According to the company, the market for sustainable aviation fuel is now in the start-up phase, and will really accelerate in 2030, when the European mandate increases to 6 % (i.e. around 3 million tons/year) and US production reaches the "Grand Challenge" target of 3 billion gallons per year (i.e. 9 million tons/year).2.

The French biotech company, which aims to contribute to the achievement of these objectives on both sides of the Atlantic, maintains its intention to serve niche markets, particularly cosmetics.
