A new durable crystalline resin

Axilone, a specialist in plastic injection and aluminum processing for luxury cosmetics, and Eastman, a materials producer, have developed a recycled and recyclable crystalline resin with a glass-like brilliance.

Sustainability is at the heart of the strategy of Axilone and Eastman, long-standing partners. The two companies have revealed the fruit of a new collaboration: an innovative solution aimed at offering sustainable packaging options while preserving high-end aesthetics and personalization.

They have developed a recycled and recyclable crystalline resin with glass-like brilliance for premium applications. This new addition to the Cristal One resin range. Cristal One Renew IM812 is designed to offer copolyester-like performance in a recyclable material (RIC1). Cristal One IM812 and Cristal One Renew IM812 have received RecyClass recyclability certification and are classified as fully compatible with Europe's existing recycling processes for PET bottles.

This resin offers several advantages for beauty brands: it is recyclable and made up of up to 100 % of certified* recycled content, with no compromise on color or performance. It combines the properties of a durable material with the ability to produce thick-walled parts with very high levels of transparency and gloss.

Thanks to Axilone's expertise in injection molding, it enables us to develop multiple applications for all segments of the sector: filling solutions for skincare and perfumery, and packaging for make-up and skincare (lipsticks, sun sticks, etc.).

"Eastman is proud of this project, which reflects the power of collaboration and shared expertise to define the future of cosmetic packaging, enabling recycled and recyclable materials to embody the codes of luxury beauty, says Tara Cary, Global Marketing Manager Cosmetics at Eastman. Cristal One Renew IM812 not only meets the high standards of aesthetics, touch and feel required by leading brands, but also supports their commitments to sustainable development."

"In our opinion, this new resin is very promising, as it meets several criteria to which we are particularly attached and for which we are a force to be reckoned with on behalf of our customers: recyclability - with the choice of materials that fit into established recycling channels, the possibility of single-material designs of varying thicknesses, and the integration of certified recycled materials, without compromising on aesthetics and high-end perception."explains Reynald Trochel, Director of Innovation at Axilone.
