The Berkem Group acquires the company Eurolyo

Cosmetic industry - Formulation

Eurolyo, located in Chartres (28), is now part of the Berkem Group, an Aquitaine-based industrial ETI specializing in chemicals. This acquisition completes the group's expertise in contract work, as the freeze-drying technique is used in a wide range of sectors: agri-food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.

Berkem expands its range of contract work services

By acquiring Eurolyo as part of its Extraction division, alongside Berkem, the Berkem Group has strengthened and extended its range of outsourcing services. For 50 years, Berkem has been developing tailor-made plant extracts for the food, cosmetics and nutraceutical markets. Backed by high-performance, multi-purpose industrial facilities, Berkem offers a wide range of services. The range of contract services has been expanded with the arrival of Eurolyo's cold-drying know-how and equipment.

Eurolyo, cold product drying

Since 1995, Eurolyo has been providing contract freeze-drying services at its Chartres plant. This is a sublimation dehydration process, operated at very low temperature and under vacuum. This process enables particularly effective drying, preserving all the qualities of the finished product, even for heat-sensitive products.
Eurolyo's production unit in Chartres, in the heart of Cosmetic Valley, comprises 7 freeze-dryers of different capacities. It operates 24/7. The work area is classified ISO 7, enabling services to be carried out in a controlled atmosphere.
In 2017, Eurolyo's sales approached the million euro mark, mainly to French customers.

Today, the team consists of 4 freeze-drying experts who can count on the support of the Berkem Group to ensure the company's continuity and development. Eurolyo will remain at its Chartres (28) production site, retaining the know-how of its existing team.

Eurolyo and the Berkem Group: complementary skills

This acquisition will enable Berkem to diversify its range of contract services and consolidate the quality of its customer network in various sectors. With this acquisition, Berkem aims to consolidate its position as France's leading subcontractor in its field. Founded in 1964, the Berkem group is historically an industrial SME specializing in chemicals. It has a production site in Dordogne (24), one in Gironde (33), and one in La Teste de Buch (33), for products manufactured by Lixol. In 2017, it posted sales of €54 million and employed over 230 people in Europe. The Berkem Group has 4 subsidiaries marketing products developed by its R&D laboratories and from its production sites. All these products are intended for professional customers in the cosmetics, construction, industry and food sectors.

Deinove announces that it has produced the first industrial batch of its innovative carotenoid

Deinococcus radiodurans - Bacteria

Deinove, a biotech company that discovers, develops and produces high-added-value compounds from rare bacteria, particularly from the Deinococcus genus, announces that it has produced the first industrial batch of its innovative carotenoid. Deinove will carry out the commercial launch of this new cosmetic active at the specialized trade show In - Cosmetics 1, taking place from April 17 to 19, 2018 in Amsterdam.

Pioneering Deinococcus-based bacterial fermentation on an industrial scale

As announced in December, the fermentation production process has been scaled up on SAS Pivert's Biogis Center technology platform. After a technology transfer phase, an initial production run of several cubic meters was successfully completed.
The biomass thus produced then underwent an original, environmentally-friendly extraction, purification and formulation process, developed in collaboration with Processium, enabling a first industrial batch of finished product to be obtained. Deinove chose Veg'extra, an extraction specialist, as its service provider for these downstream processing stages.

Commercial launch imminent

The carotenoid developed has great potential: formulated in an organic vegetable oil, this innovative active is perfectly suited to incorporation into skincare creams and can therefore be used by various cosmetics players. Deinove anticipates a commercial launch of its compound early in the 2 nd quarter of 2018. In the meantime, teams are finalizing additional efficacy tests, including consumer tests, which will validate product claims and support the sales pitch. The company is also working on packaging the ingredient in sample form, adapted to the needs of cosmetics manufacturers.

Emmanuel Petiot , CEO of Deinove, comments: "We are proud to have reached this new milestone for the company. Our teams and partners have achieved a real technological feat in transferring our Deinococcus to industrial scale. It's extremely exciting to see several years of research and development come to fruition in the form of a commercial product. Deinove is starting a new chapter in its young history.

Pharmacosmetech, a new show dedicated to the Pharmaceutical and Cosmetics industries

Molding - Injection molding

Even Pro, organizer of the Sepem Industries trade shows (7 shows in France) as well as Vractech Expo (Le Mans and Mâcon), will be staging the first show dedicated to services, equipment and processes for the Pharmaceuticals, Cosmetics, Perfumery and Fine Chemicals industries in Chartres on April 2, 3 and 4, 2019.
This event is the fruit of numerous requests expressed by a large number of companies already exhibiting at Even Pro events and wishing, like several other professional sectors in France, to have their own event anchored at the heart of their production zone. That's why the Chartres exhibition center was chosen, because of its proximity to Paris and its location at the epicenter of the Cosmetic Valley and the Pôle Pharma.
This proximity to Paris and the introduction of free shuttles between Paris-Orly and the Chartres exhibition center will make it easier to attract national visitors.
In line with the trade shows organized by Even Pro, the first edition of Pharmacosmetech will cover a maximum surface area of 7,000 m², and will welcome around 300 exhibitors.
Even Pro specializes in the organization of trade shows and the development of industrial files (production sites, decision-makers and direct influencers). Operational players from nearly 5,000 production sites will be invited by name and free of charge: over 30,000 executives responsible for "core plant" activities, including site directors, production and maintenance managers, pharmacists, laboratory managers, R&D, engineering and design, logistics, packaging managers, etc.
A program of conferences will be set up to address current issues in these sectors.

Cosmetics industry - Fencing industries 2020

Gattefossé announces that its Singapore-based subsidiary Gattefossé Asie Pacifique has obtained ISO9001 version 2015 certification, the international standard that sets out the requirements for a quality management system.

For many years now, Gattefossé has had a quality management system in place for its Saint-Priest site (France), and this certification in Singapore represents the start of a process designed to extend the quality perimeter to the whole Group, in line with the company's strategy.
For Gattefossé Asia Pacific, this certification applies to the promotion and marketing of specialty ingredients and formulation solutions for the health and beauty industries worldwide, as well as to the control of operations with its partners. Quali Glass Coat 2.0, the new decoration process from Stoelzle

Stölzle glass - Glass

Stoelzle Masnieres Parfumerie's new powder paint decoration process for perfumery and cosmetics bottles and jars combines innovation and environmental commitment.
"Over the years, decoration has become an integral part of our business. It allows products to gain in individuality and attractiveness. Our customers are always asking us to be more creative, and Stoelzle Masnieres Decoration already offers a wide range of sophisticated, innovative decorating techniques to enhance existing shapes. It's a great way to develop a product range at low cost. Today, we're going one step further and are proud to have developed Qali Glass Coat 2.0, a new eco-responsible glass powdering technique at our Masnieres Decoration plant" Franck Legrand, Innovation Director.

The use of powder paint offers a range of new decorative effects with very low environmental impact and high mechanical resistance.
This new process makes it possible to develop new colors using powder-coating technology.
Its ecological benefits are exceptional, thanks to the absence of solvents and the low quantity of volatile organic compounds in the entire decorating process.
Recovering and reintegrating the materials produced by over spray into production solves both the problem of emissions and that of waste.

Derived from the metallurgy industry, this new technique offers significant advances from an environmental point of view, as the powders used in this application process comply with the European Council's law of January 27, 2003 on hazardous substances (ROHS). These products do not contain lead, mercury, cadmium or chromium, in compliance with current European directives. This process has already proved its worth in extreme conditions.
In addition to its environmental benefits, this new process gives bottles and jars a magnificent finish:
- perfect coverage on all surfaces
- high resistance to impact and friction
- A wide choice of colors for multiple surfaces.
- Chrome, pearl, glitter and gradient effects, on all or part of the facon or pot, transparent or opaque.
- A wide range of additional customization options

"Thanks to Stölzle Glass Group's investment in research and development and the purchase of high-tech machinery, Stoelzle Masnieres Décoration already has a perfect command of lacquering, screen printing, hot stamping and many other decoration techniques. All this while complying with the Group's CSR policy, since the products used are water-based. We already offer a very wide range of colors. We work with metals such as enamels, semi-precious and even precious metals. We also work semi-automatically, adapting to our customers' needs. Specialists in small quantities at Masnières for the perfume and cosmetics industry, we are also in constant contact with other Group sites for high-volume decoration. Our lacquering and inkjet manager has been working for several years on 3D effects, wood, concrete, soft touch, lenticular effects... the Quali Glass Coat innovation will enable Nicolas Carron, Sales Director, and his teams, to accompany their customers ever further in their quest for creativity and personalization of bottles and jars." Etienne Gruyez, General Manager of Stoelzle Masnieres Parfumerie and Stoelzle Masnieres Décoration.

Verescence creates a bottle with Sculpt'in technology for Proenza Schouler

SGD Pharma - Glass

Verescence, the world leader in glass bottles for the perfume and cosmetics industries, has created an exceptional bottle with SCULPT'in technology for Arizona, the first fragrance of the fashion brand Proenza Schouler, under license from L'Oréal.

The Arizona bottle demonstrates Verescence's innovative capabilities in glass forming and finishing.

To create this artistic bottle, Verescence used a unique and breakthrough glass forming technology, Sculpt'in, which allows for an asymmetrical distribution of the glass base. "This patented technology revolutionizes the laws of forming by pushing back the limits of blowing and allows the creation of unique shapes inside a bottle with a standard perfumery ring," explains Samuel Joachim, Director of Innovation & Development at Verescence.

Arizona is magnified by a gradient coral-colored pad printing that highlights the faceted angles and unique design of the bottle. "The pad printing with a gradient effect also represents a technical feat achieved in our finishing site in Abbeville (Hauts-de-France region)," comments Samuel Joachim. The name of the product is silk-screened in black on the face of the bottle.

"We are very proud of this disruptive innovation on the bottle of Proenza Schouler's first fragrance. This was made possible thanks to a close partnership between L'Oréal and Verescence teams" says Samuel Joachim.
The Arizona bottle was manufactured in France at the Mers-les-Bains glassworks, Verescence's center of excellence for innovation, and will be launched in February in three sizes: 30ml, 50ml and 90ml.

iD Scent revisits the perfume sample

parfum - Perfume

iD Scent imagines, designs, manufactures and markets innovative fragrance supports. It has developed an avant-garde technology called Scentest.
The result of 10 years of R&D, Scentest is a scented paper support that combines innovation and respect for fragrance.
At ADF&PCD Paris 2018, iD Scent put the spotlight on this innovative olfactory experience on paper.

Scentest offers many advantages. By integrating the fragrance directly into the paper fibers through air compression, fragrance reproduction is faithful, stable and homogeneous over several months or even years. Scent diffusion is powerful and instantaneous. Scentest also offers a wide range of finishing possibilities. The fragrance does not interfere with the print, and vice versa. Fragrance can be partially or totally applied to the substrate. Scentest is also an ideal solution for export. The absence of alcohol facilitates international logistics and reduces regulatory constraints.

For the consumer, Scentest makes it possible to repeat the olfactory experience. Consumers can smell the fragrance as many times as they like in optimal conditions. They can also share the scented medium with friends and family to "validate" their choice. The contact cost is attractive, as the scented support can be used to touch several people several times.

This technology is already available in press and retail samples, training materials, press kits, mailings, emailings...
