FaiveleyTech: a jewel of innovation for the bottle of Rabanne's new fragrance

FaiveleyTech - Rabanne

Rabanne chose FaiveleyTech, a French company specializing in the injection and assembly of aesthetic plastic parts, to create the bottle accessory for Million Gold For Her Eau de Parfum, its new fragrance.

For his latest women's fragrance, Million Gold For Her Eau de Parfum, officially released in France on August 26, 2024, Rabanne relied on the expertise of FaiveleyTech to create the bottle accessory: an elegant jewel designed in a single piece in a complex kinematic mold. A real challenge for a haute-couture bottle.

FaiveleyTech's Beauty BU produced a gold-galvanized PP collar, which is assembled on the bottle using an automated process. The bonding, carried out at several points, provides major resistance so that the jewel cannot be removed from the product. The multiplicity of containers and glass manufacturers adds to the challenges faced by the Beauty BU.

"We are very proud to have participated, in partnership with the brand's teams, in the success of this creation: a unique jewel for this new emblematic floral and feminine fragrance signed Rabanne."explains Béryl Tomaschett, FaiveleyTech Orgelet Sales Manager.

FaiveleyTech aims to offer its customers ever more innovative, original and sustainable solutions to add value to new projects.

Rabanne commissioned this jewel to adorn the 50 and 90 ml bottles of the new eau de parfum. All bottles are refillable in a single step with the eco-friendly Million Gold for Her - 200ml refill.

Evonik inaugurates new emollient plant

German company Evonik recently inaugurated its new ester production plant at its Steinau site in Germany. This will help boost the biosolutions portfolio of the company's Nutrition & Care division, while enabling the cosmetics sector to offer more sustainable solutions.

Evonik uses its biotechnology platform to produce emollients by enzymatic esterification. The plant, valued at over 10 million euros, will significantly increase production capacity, enabling Evonik to meet growing customer demand for sustainable cosmetic emollients. This investment will contribute to reducing Evonik's climate footprint and its customers' cosmetic formulations.

"Emollients are no longer just about performance, they must also have a strong sustainability profile. This investment helps us to reduce our footprint, while supporting the beauty industry in its transformation, responding to the demand for more responsible and environmentally friendly solutions."said Johann-Caspar Gammelin, President of Evonik's Nutrition & Care Division.

Emollients are cosmetic oils and waxes that account for 10 to 25 % of cosmetic emulsions, but also 70 to 80 % of a product's climate footprint, according to Evonik. "Switching from a chemical to an enzymatic esterification process when manufacturing emollients can reduce the climate footprint by more than 60 %, argues the company. All Care Solutions production sites are powered exclusively by renewable energies. As a result, the climate footprint of this new production plant in Steinau is virtually zero from door to door."

Emollients manufactured by enzymatic catalysis have been part of the Evonik portfolio for almost 25 years. Produced from vegetable oils, they act as emollients in skin care products, making the skin soft and supple. To date, they have been produced at Evonik's sites in Duisburg, Germany, and Shanghai, China. Evonik's Steinau site is a hotbed of innovation for the cosmetics industry, as well as for specialized biodegradable surfactants and active substances. Steinau manufactures a diversified portfolio of over 200 products.

Sustainability is the guiding principle of Evonik's Care Solutions business sector. Numerous sustainability initiatives are underway, such as the Ecohance program, which aims to meet the highest sustainability ambitions for beauty and personal care applications by including new-generation raw materials or offering social-ecological benefits.

Batir france ingénierie uses digital twin to build new laboratories for Stéarinerie Dubois

Stéarinerie Dubois

Stéarinerie Dubois, a company specializing in the creation and production of esters, has entrusted batir france ingénierie (Spie Batignolles) with the construction of a new building to house a quality control laboratory and a research and development laboratory, at its historic site in Ciron (36). Construction of the laboratory, which began in late 2023, will be completed in July 2025.

Batir france ingénierie wanted to make this project the pilot for a project development method based on the digital twin.

Digital innovation at the heart of the project

The use of a digital twin developed by batir france ingénierie teams is both a technical and collaborative innovation.

Previously, each software package used in a BIM approach had its own constraints and was built around a core of different data. As a result, flows between the various departments at batir france ingénierie, and with partner design offices, were disrupted.

"The challenge was therefore to work on the entire project development workflow and associated software to ensure that they were interoperable and able to work around a single core of data. In addition to instantly measuring the impact of a project modification, this innovation enables us to continuously feed data, which can be reused for all our future projects".explains Guillaume Daoulas, Managing Director of batir france ingénierie.

All stakeholders then have a real, scalable digital twin, to support the customer's informed decision-making on various aspects of the project.

At the end of June, batir france ingénierie won the major Tech Show trophy for its work on the molecular laboratory for Stéarinerie Dubois. The award recognizes the most ambitious construction projects based on innovative technology. Batir France Ingénierie was honored for its work on the adaptability of the software used to design and build the Stéarinerie Dubois laboratory around shared data. "We won this award because we have succeeded in de-siloing businesses, deploying a new approach to project development around the digital twin."says Guillaume Daoulas.

A high-tech building

The three-storey building will house two types of laboratory activities in addition to dedicated tertiary premises: a 550 m² R&D laboratory on the ground floor, equipped with a dozen large-volume fume cupboards with 2.2-metre glass fronts, and a 650 m² quality control laboratory on the first floor.

In the R&D laboratory, fume cupboards will ensure the safety of operators when handling chemical elements. The laboratory ventilation process constantly blows in air equivalent to that extracted, while maintaining the required temperature and cleanliness of the air in the premises.

In the quality control laboratory, operators will be responsible for analyzing products from the R&D laboratory and continuously monitoring the quality of products manufactured in the nearby production plant on the historic site.

As the area allocated to the laboratory's construction is very uneven, batir france ingénierie's teams designed a building adapted to this topography, with a basement that takes advantage of a difference in level of several meters.

A requirement for homogeneous temperatures within the R&D and quality control laboratory conditioned the choice of equipment retained by batir france ingénierie and constituted a real technical challenge during the building design studies.

One room in the quality control laboratory will be dedicated to the use of chromatographs. These machines generate a great deal of heat, and require the installation of additional means to maintain temperature levels compatible with good practice.

A Carrier reversible heat pump will provide heating and cooling for the building. Two Hydronic single-flow AHUs will provide controlled compensation for the two laboratories. For the tertiary sector, ventilation and air treatment will be provided by a VIM dual-flow unit. This dual-flow unit recovers over 90 % of energy produced to ensure the comfort of these premises.

"This major investment combines product and process innovation, and manufacturing excellence, in a single production facility. First and foremost, it will enable us to accelerate our innovation strategy. Our aim is to develop new products and processes, bringing proven added value to our customers and in line with the principles of "green chemistry".says Hervé Plessix, Managing Director of Stéarinerie Dubois. It also strengthens our quality control capabilities. Our customers are rightly becoming ever more demanding. Giving ourselves the means to anticipate these demands is a formidable growth lever for the company.

Cosmed offers a new platform for issuing over-the-counter certificates

make-up

The certificate of free sale (CVL) is an official document required by the authorities of 69 countries outside the European Union as a condition for importing finished cosmetic products into their markets. It certifies that the products comply with regulation (EC) n°1223/2009 and can therefore be marketed in the European Union.

Cosmed, the trade association representing French cosmetics companies with 1,030 members, has been issuing CVLs since 2010. To support the growth of French brands abroad, on August 20, 2024 the organization launched its new platform for issuing CVLs: www.cosmedcvl.fr.

This new CVL Cosmed platform enables data to be imported en masse via a simple Excel spreadsheet, simplifying the creation of product catalogs.

All the companies or brands in a group can be managed by a single identifier.

A new search engine also makes it easier to select products for CVL.

Another advantage of this new platform is that CVLs can be previewed prior to validation, thus avoiding errors and enabling the company to confirm with the foreign distributor, as well as secure online payment (payment by invoice is also possible).

"This new platform will benefit all cosmetics companies, whether or not they are members of Cosmed. The formalities will be extremely simple, totally secure and stored in three separate databases in France".emphasizes Jean-Marc Giroux, President of Cosmed.

For this new site, Cosmed collaborated with the Map Emulsion agency, a 17-year expert in the digital development of beauty brands. Based at the Marseille Media Center, the agency masters the challenges and best practices of the cosmetics sector, and signs partnerships with global leaders and new independent players.

A partnership to develop ionic oxygen generators

Novair - American Oxygen

The French group Novair, a global manufacturer of on-site oxygen and nitrogen generators, and American Oxygen, a start-up developing ceramic technologies for gas separation by ionization, have signed a strategic partnership agreement to industrialize and market an ionic oxygen generator by the end of 2024. As part of this partnership, Novair will invest in the capital of American Oxygen, and the partners will set up a joint venture dedicated to the manufacture of ionic oxygen generators.

The ionic oxygen generator is reliable, ultra-compact and easy to use (plug and play). According to its designers, it is based on the greatest technological innovation in the field of air gases since the invention of cryogenic distillation over 100 years ago.

Technology developed in collaboration with NASA

The technology was originally developed by American Oxygen in cooperation with NASA for use during astronauts' spacewalks on the moon or in space.

The ionic oxygen generator produces ultra-pure oxygen (from 99.99% to 99.9999%) from ambient air, using a ceramic membrane with the property of selectively conducting oxygen atoms through its wall. The oxygen produced is generated spontaneously under pressure, without a compressor, "an unprecedented technological feat.

The ionic oxygen generator is designed for the most demanding industrial, laboratory and healthcare applications. A breakthrough innovation in the air gases market, this generator aims to provide an autonomous, affordable, low-carbon, ultra-reliable oxygen supply. It eliminates dependence on liquid or bottled gas deliveries.

"At a time when access to high-purity oxygen has proved crucial for many activities in healthcare, research and industry, we are delighted to be partnering with American Oxygen. It will enable us to reach a new milestone, giving as many people as possible access to a revolutionary innovation that enables the on-site production of ultra-pure oxygen using a reliable, easy-to-use device".says Bernard Zenou, President of Novair.

"This technology is the product of many years of R&D and collaboration with Nasa, and was initially developed to produce oxygen on the International Space Station. It was the Covid-19 pandemic that accelerated the design of a first demonstrator to produce medical oxygen, this time on Earth. Today, the technology is mature and ready for industrialization. Together with Novair, the world's leading player in the oxygen generator market, we are very proud to bring to market this new oxygen production technology, which will provide access to high-purity oxygen for all industries and hospitals, everywhere in the world". continues Dale Taylor, President of American Oxygen.

A buoyant global market

The global oxygen market1 - estimated at nearly $70 billion - is growing steadily, and is expected to record an annual growth rate of over 9 % to reach over $125 billion by 2028. Essential for treating severe cases of illness, demand for medical oxygen increased considerably during the Covid-19 pandemic. Oxygen is also used in a wide range of industries for its combustion, oxidation and fermentation properties. Growing demand for pure oxygen in laboratories, fiber optics and semiconductor manufacturing is contributing to market growth.
