Tageos (Fedrigoni Group) inaugurates an innovation center

Tageos' (Fedrigoni Group) new R&D center in Munich will optimize the development of RFID and wireless IoT products and applications for customers and partners worldwide.

Manufacturer of RFID inlays and labels, Montpellier-based SME Tageos (group Fedrigoni) inaugurated its new R&D center in Munich, Germany.

Tageos' Innovation Center of Excellence (ICoE) responds to strong market and customer demand to drive the development of the latest RFID, HF & NFC products and applications, as well as the wireless Internet of Things. An integral part of Tageos' R&D and innovation capabilities, ICoE's areas of expertise now include specialized antennas for RFID inlays and tags, emerging RF technologies such as Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), as well as the attachment of flexible batteries, sensors and other innovative components.

In addition to technological innovation, ICoE has Engineering as a Service (EaaS) capabilities. Full support is offered to customers and partners, both technically and commercially. In particular, EaaS enables new products to be prototyped and industrialized. Tageos teams can design, manufacture and test finished products in small quantities.

Large-scale volumes, for their part, are transferred to the company's certified high-quality production facilities in France, the USA and China, with an annual production capacity of over 11 billion units.

Other EaaS services include project consulting and application engineering, technical process optimization, and programming and implementation support to ensure the best technical and commercial fit.

To meet expectations

Tageos' new ICoE joins forces with the Fedrigoni Group's innovation center in Verona (Italy) to form the basis of a new European cluster with expertise in RFID and the Internet of Things, as well as in R&D for smart papers and labels.

RFID is becoming increasingly strategic for Fedrigoni, the Italian paper and label specialist. The markets served by the group - from luxury goods to pharmaceuticals, wine & spirits, food, beauty and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) - are looking for solutions that enable authentication, brand protection, traceability and customer experience for their products and packaging.

The new ICoE marks Tageos' commitment and determination in terms of innovation, product development, technical resources and workforce. The Munich region, a technology center renowned for its dynamic ecosystem, and the opportunities to capitalize on this asset were determining factors in the choice of location.

The new R&D center, covering more than 700 m², employs around fifteen people. It represents an investment of several million euros.

A strong commitment to customer service and innovation

"As majority shareholders in Tageos, we are delighted to celebrate the opening of this new state-of-the-art R&D facility, a symbol of our combined strengths and leadership in innovation. It also confirms our shared commitment to customer excellence. By bringing together the best talent and cutting-edge technologies, Tageos and Fedrigoni share the ambition to enable and accelerate the breakthrough innovations that will shape industries today and tomorrow."said Marco Nespolo, CEO of the Fedrigoni Group.

"RFID technology has reached a pivotal moment - it is already widely adopted and successfully used in many key applications. Our constant quest for innovation will help us to develop cutting-edge products while meeting the evolving needs of our customers. The new Center of Excellence and Innovation will offer customers and market partners even greater access to our resources, helping them to achieve their objectives more quickly, integrate the latest technologies and exploit them to reduce time-to-market and gain a competitive edge. It also underlines our strong commitment to true technological innovation, performance and sustainability in RFID and wireless IoT, and to the development of next-generation products that will shape the future."added Matthieu Picon, CEO of Tageos.
