Ecoinvent clarifies the carbon impact of recycled zamak

Ecoinvent has published updated data on the carbon footprint of recycled zamak, a crucial alloy for the cosmetics industry in its quest for sustainability. Segede confirms its commitment to this ecological transition.

For Ecoinvent, the carbon impact of recycled zamak is now reduced from 2400 kg of CO₂/tonne to less than 671 kg, thanks to the limited use of virgin raw material. This update marks a significant step forward for Segede, which has been working to reduce the material's carbon footprint.

Segede's commitment and European regulations

In the context of PPWR regulations, the European Union is pushing brands towards «more circular» production practices, with a direct impact on their packaging strategies. Zamak, hitherto neglected in favor of more conventional materials, has seen its recyclability validated by the European Committee for Standardization. This new status legitimizes its wider use in the cosmetics sector.

Towards 100 % recycled material

Segede is committed to supporting the industry by supplying brands with zamak made from fully recycled material, without compromising on quality. More «circular» than ever, zamak could transform brands' eco-design practices, in line with a growing demand for sustainable materials in their packaging.

With the objective of a smooth transition and a commitment to traceability and responsible sourcing, Segede offers a capacity for innovation essential to responding positively to the recyclability directives anticipated by the EU. As zamak's impact continues to be refined by LCA studies, it is redefining its capabilities in the cosmetics industry.
