L'Oréal Groupe has announced the acquisition of a 10 % stake in the Swiss company Galderma Group.
According to stakeholders, a strategic scientific partnership will leverage the undisputed expertise of both companies: Galderma's through a wide range of dermatological solutions, and L'Oréal's in skin biology, diagnostic tools and evaluation methods.
Galderma was founded in 1981 by L'Oréal and Nestlé. L'Oréal then sold its shares to the food giant in 2014, which spun off the company in 2019.
Led by CEO Dr. Flemming Ornskov, Galderma has become one of the world's leading players in the field of injectable aesthetics. Today, the company offers a broad portfolio of products including injectable solutions such as hyaluronic acid-based wrinkle fillers, as well as dermatological drugs.
"I am very pleased to announce this strategic investment and partnership with Galderma. This is an ambitious step for L'Oréal, true to our motto 'seize what begins'. This step will enable us to explore the fast-growing aesthetics market, a key activity that complements our unique core business of beauty, said Nicolas Hieronimus, Managing Director of L'Oréal Groupe. We fully support Galderma's management and its strategy as a leader in dermatology, respect its independence and are very confident in its long-term growth potential."
L'Oréal points out that, as a global specialist in beauty and Beauty Tech, the group is increasingly investing in a more holistic approach, addressing the entire beauty routine. "This approach aims to combine diagnostic tools, high-performance topical products with home devices or aesthetic treatments, to offer new levels of combined performance, correcting, repairing, preventing, anticipating and intercepting the signs of skin aging."
The Galderma Group, recently successfully listed on the Swiss stock exchange, supports this operation and strategic partnership as a long-term partner of l'Oréal.
L'Oréal Groupe specifies that it will not be represented on Galderma's Board of Directors.
