Oriflame chooses Albéa's Greenleaf technology for its oral care range

Oriflame's "Optifresh" line now offers five ready-to-recycle high-density polyethylene (HDPE) toothpaste tubes with screw caps using patented Greenleaf 2 tube technology. Even with a thinner laminate sheet and up to 20 % less virgin plastic in the sleeve, this unique technology provides maximum protection from light, oxygen and moisture while saving energy.

"Oriflame is synonymous with environmentally friendly products in terms of both formulations and materials and packaging, says Wyn Thomas, Packaging Category Manager at Oriflame. Greenleaf tubes are perfectly aligned with our company philosophy and help us reduce environmental impact and improve circularity while providing the best customer experience."

Greenleaf 2 tube technology allows tubes to be recyclable wherever local collection programs are available. Generation 2 pipes are recognized by the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) in North America, and by RecyClass and SUEZ.circpack in Europe. These certifications confirm that they can be recycled within existing HDPE bottle recycling streams.

"We are proud to support Oriflame in its commitment to sustainability, while pursuing our own goals of achieving 100 % recyclable or reusable packaging by 2025."says Gilles Swyngedauw, Vice President Sustainable Development & Innovation at Albea.

Epiloderm launches its moisturizing face & body cream with prebiotics

Founded in 2007, Epiloderm is recognized for its expertise in hair removal with its patented "Epiloderm method", combined with plant-derived waxes and the Epiloderm X pulsed-light device. The brand also offers photorejuvenation and a full range of moisturizers, serums and scrubs.

Its latest innovation is a face & body moisturizer with prebiotics: Epiloderm Velours whipped cream. This formula, composed of 95 % of natural ingredients, takes full advantage of the benefits of prebiotics, which help maintain and rebalance the skin's microbiome, while reinforcing the epidermal barrier.

Two powerful active ingredients: marine biotechnology and prebiotics

Epiloderm Velours maintains the skin's protective microbiota thanks to the synergy of two active ingredients.

  • Preserves and maintains the skin's ecosystem
  • Reinforces the skin's natural defences
  • Protects skin flora from pollutant particles

Composed of 95 % ingredients of natural origin, Velours skincare has a neutral fragrance, making it suitable for both women and men. Its whipped texture enhances penetration of active ingredients and deep hydration, leaving the skin feeling velvety soft.

Marine biotechnology (Gigartina Stellata Extract), 100 % of natural origin, is derived from a red algae found on the rocky shores of Europe's Atlantic coast, which helps maintain skin's youthful appearance:

  • Enables cell regeneration
  • Powerful moisturizing active ingredient
  • Captures free radicals: antioxidant and anti-aging

Medelpharm: exclusive representation agreement with MG2

Medelpharm announces the signing of a new exclusive representation agreement for the entire range of capsule fillers and primary and secondary packaging solutions from Italian manufacturer MG2 on the French and Belgian markets.

With this partnership effective September 1, 2021, Medelpharm intends to strengthen its leading position in terms of powder processing from R&D to production in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and cosmetic sectors.

By becoming the new representative of the MG2 company, Medelpharm adds a new string to its bow and at the same time makes a remarkable entry into the capsule encapsulation and filling market.

MG2 is a world-renowned manufacturer of production-oriented tools and has been a major player in the capsule filling machine market for 55 years. The company took into account the challenges related to R&D very early on in order to develop versatile and adaptable products with multiple uses. A true reference in its field, MG2 has two divisions:

- a "Processing" division which groups together the historical activities of the company, including the range of capsule fillers (see details below), and in particular the Flexalab (R&D capsule filler), MG Compact (capsule filler for medium production), and Planeta (high speed capsule filler) machines.

- a "Packaging" division whose mission is to design primary and secondary packaging solutions for the pharmaceutical, cosmetics and food sectors. In particular, its new high-performance "star" machines, Kartos (intermittent motion cartoning machine) and BliStar (intermittent motion blistering machine), have many assets that should enable them to quickly become a major success.

Medelpharm MG2 Blistar- Packaging - Product Info

For its part, Medelpharm already offers a global R&D and production service. This covers R&D consulting, the manufacture of R&D equipment and the distribution of production and R&D equipment.

The MG2 range of capsule fillers is an excellent addition to Medelpharm's portfolio of products and brands and is in line with the challenges of product development in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and cosmetic industries.

This partnership between Medelpharm and M2G allows to answer perfectly to the current needs of the industrialists in the field of the treatment of powders and dry forms.

Productivity and quality are assured: the players in these industries are subject to productivity and quality imperatives, and therefore need safe and efficient R&D and equipment.

The challenges of transposition are mastered: development methodologies are evolving and it is therefore essential to focus on a smooth transition from R&D to industrial scale.

Quality by Design" is at the heart of product development: known as "Quality by Design", this transposition approach is based on the collection of information from the first stages of development. The combined know-how of Medelpharm and MG2 provides an unparalleled response to this approach.

High-performance frosting machines

From now on, Medelpharm will represent exclusively in France and in Belgium the different capsule formers developed by MG2.

The capsule filling machines proposed by M2G have the particularity to be designed according to a continuous motion system which brings significant advantages in terms of performances and control.

In addition, these state-of-the-art machines offer maximum flexibility and scalability and are equipped with state-of-the-art weight and quality control systems. Furthermore, the MG2 capsule fillers offer the possibility to dose any type of product (powders, tablets, herbs, capsules in capsules, liquids, ...) with different combinations of dosages and production rates.

MG2 capsuleers are classified into three main categories according to their use:

  • Capsule fillers for R&D and laboratories: FlexaLAB - Microdose
  • Medium production capsule fillers: MG Compact - Suprema.
  • High speed production capsule fillers: Planeta and Planeta 200 - Tekna - G70 and G140.

Bormioli Luigi strengthens its CSR strategy

Bormioli Luigi is strengthening its CSR positioning and increasing its innovations. In a circular economy logic, its product offer declines the axes of material reduction and sustainability, for the perfume, care and make-up segments. In the ecoLine collection, the diptych brand has chosen the ecoBottle for the concept of its summer body spray.

With a fleet of latest generation electric ovens, Bormioli Luigi meets the demand of brands with a growing share of PCR. It also innovates with flexible industrial processes, in line with the expectations of multi-reference bottles. Since the success of the ecoLine range in lightweight glass, Bormioli Luigi has been developing a range of sustainable, refillable or refillable products whose concept reveals new opportunities for glass, particularly in the skincare and make-up markets.

EcoBottle for Dyptique summer spray

Developed in a limited edition, Citronella and Geranium is a summer body spray whose repellent properties of essential oils make it an original scented mosquito repellent. For this summer scent with bright and aromatic notes, the brand diptyque has chosen the ecoBottle model in lightweight glass with a percentage of PCR (10 %) that does not alter the purity of the glass and highlights the juice. For a 100 ml format, the bottle weighs only 80 gr, almost half of an identical traditional format. This makes it a practical, robust and easy-to-handle nomadic product. Its screw pump favors the recycling of the product by disassembling. Its design has allowed the brand to adapt a hood of the range.

Through this collaborative project, diptych was able to develop a short series, taking advantage of an existing model of the Bormioli range, whose quality, design and environmental impact met the aesthetic and qualitative expectations.

Natural biopeptides for an anti-aging effect

Composed of natural biopeptides purified to 95 %, obtained from the co-product of a super-fruit, the cranberry, Peptilium is, according to Silab, a global anti-aging active ingredient. Long-lasting and effective, it boosts radiance and diminishes fine lines and wrinkles.

Targeting all three skin compartments

Thanks to their richness and molecular diversity, the natural biopeptides making up Peptilium have the ability to act across several biological targets. The active ingredient thus acts on various skin compartments:

- reinforces the epidermal barrier function and boosts the complexion's radiance [1] ;

- it improves the quality of the dermal-epidermal junction and the dermal matrix, for an anti-wrinkle action [2] .

A targeted transcriptomic analysis carried out by Silab showed that, out of 34 genes involved in skin homeostasis, 76 % are deregulated during aging. Thanks to Peptilium , the expression of 81% of these deregulated genes is normalized.

Radiance booster and anti-wrinkle

As early as 21 days after application, Peptilium tested at 2 % in emulsion significantly improved parameters characteristic of complexion radiance in Caucasian (radiance: +12%; pink color: +17%) and Asian (luminosity: +6%; olive color: -5%) subjects.

Under the same conditions, Peptilium showed an anti-wrinkle effect on Caucasian (negative volume: -22%) and Asian (crow's feet wrinkle stage: -10%) volunteers. These radiance-boosting and anti-wrinkle effects intensified after 42 days of treatment, and were confirmed by a subjective evaluation: 100% of Caucasian and Asian volunteers felt that their fine lines and wrinkles had been reduced.

A comparative study conducted by Silab also shows that Peptilium is more intensely and rapidly effective than retinol, while being free of side effects.

Upcycling approach

Silab has turned its attention to a super-fruit, the cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon). Used in traditional Amerindian medicine, this small red berry native to North America is now considered a health food worldwide.

As part of an upcycling approach, Silab has specifically selected one of its co-products, cranberry cake, for its high molecular potential. The company chose a supplier committed to cranberry practices (Vaccinium macrocarpon) sustainable development and has developed a specific in-house eco-extraction process to produce purified natural biopeptides at 95 %.

Peptilium (Vaccinium macrocarpon (Cranberry) Fruit Extract) is a patented product available in aqueous solution (recommended dose: 0.5 to 2 %). This active ingredient has a natural origin content of 99 % (ISO 16128) and complies with international cosmetics regulations (Europe, USA, China, Japan, etc.).

[1] Tested at 0.5% on aged SILABSKIN ® RE reconstructed epidermis, Peptilium significantly restores proliferation (Ki-67 synthesis: +86 %) and keratinocyte differentiation (loricrin synthesis: +49%), two processes essential for barrier function renewal.

[2] Tested at 0.1% on aged fibroblasts, Peptilium significantly increases collagen I network production by 54%, thus helping to maintain functional organization of matrix fibers.
