ID bio unveils a soothing active ingredient based on saffron flower

At the latest edition of ln-Cosmetics Paris, ID bio introduced its partners to Sens'flower, a soothing active ingredient offering a global approach to sensitive skin.

Sens'flower
In response to the problem of sensitive skin which, according to a recent study, affects 6 8% of the world's population (men and women combined) ID bio has developed a soothing active ingredient created from saffron flowers via a specific technological process. Sens'flower acts effectively on the main skin irritations characteristic of reactive and hyper-sensitive skin. Complementary biological targets have been analyzed using their respective markers in in vitro studies.
Sens'flower offers a broad field of action via synergistic pathways:

  • Reinforces the skin barrier and stimulates the NMF
  • Controlling the pro-inflammatory response and associated skin signals
  • Reduced skin discomfort
  • Redness reduction

The results were supplemented by clinical tests on panellists, to validate the beneficial action of the active ingredient on sensitive skin:

  • Redness spot reduction: up to -8 % after just 28 days
  • Reduction in the surface area of red zones

A self-assessment study was also carried out.

Focus on the French industry
ID bio has set up several local supply chains with secure French sourcing from a number of organic and sustainable saffron producers, notably based in the Limousin region. The use of flowers makes it possible to exploit a co-product of saffron cultivation that is currently unused. Indeed, only the plant's stigmas are used to produce the spice for the food industry, and the flowers, despite their explosive molecular potential, have not been used until now. The creation of this network of partners makes it possible to offer a new and complementary outlet to growers, and to ensure short sourcing circuits for this delicate, fragile and ephemeral raw material, harvested with particular care over 2 to 4 weeks towards the end of October.

A solution for formulators
Sens'flower is dedicated to formulators working on the creation of ultra-gentle, skin-friendly formulas. Thanks to this active ingredient, created from a fine, delicate and ephemeral flower, they benefit from a differentiating approach that enables them to respond effectively to the initial brief, while at the same time providing an answer to consumers increasingly prone to skin hypersensitivity. This active ingredient is easy to formulate and can be incorporated into complete face care formulas, eye contour products and masks, as well as functional make-up products.
