A digital tool for more transparent information on cosmetic formulations

At in-cosmetics Global, to be held in Paris from April 16-18, 2024, Basf will be presenting its new digital tool for cosmetics formulators. The idea is to enable them to easily identify ingredients and formulations meeting specific criteria - such as information on sustainable development, standards and labels - which are becoming increasingly numerous.

"With our new tool, we enable users to create or upload their own formulations and see changes happen instantly while customizing them. They benefit from real-time transparency on the various criteria, which considerably simplifies the formulation development process."says Aleksandra Pienczykowska, Manager Digital Customer Channels EMEA at Basf Care Chemicals.

An intuitive interface

An integral part of Basf's "Beyond Beauty" campaign, which encourages the cosmetics industry's transition towards greater transparency and more sustainable solutions, the "Ingredients Revealed" service offers an intuitive customer experience and speeds up the product development process.

A three-step approach is proposed. First, users can browse Basf's extensive database to identify formulations that meet consumer demands. Next, they can use the tool to manage their formulations and refine their collection of ingredients. Finally, they can add or remove individual ingredients from selected formulations, or create a new formulation from scratch. An input function allows users to import their own ingredients. And the database is continuously updated.

A D'lite feature

Ingredients Revealed is the new feature of D'lite, Basf's digital service platform for the cosmetics industry. A basic version with a limited number of formulations will be available in the free section of the platform. Subscribers to the premium version of D'lite will be able to use the functionality with full access to Basf's database of over 4,500 formulations. With D'lite, Basf supports its customers throughout the entire product development process: from consumer and market understanding to product launch, concept creation, market strategy and formulation development. The offering combines the integration of multiple internal data sources, industry knowledge and data from leading external partners on market and consumer intelligence.
