New equipment for handling cardboard drums

Dalmec presents a new "trade" version of its latest Partner Equo PEC type manipulator, custom-designed and developed for lifting, moving and palletizing cardboard drums. This manipulator is aimed in particular at the chemical, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, food (especially for transporting and storing dry, pasty and semi-liquid products, etc.), packaging, building and construction materials sectors.

A genuine "weight canceller", this articulated-arm equipment features an adjustable gripping device with suction cups designed to facilitate the handling of cardboard drums of varying sizes, shapes and weights. The tool enables drums to be retrieved and positioned on a pallet for transport and storage.

To ensure controlled, optimal gripping of cardboard drums weighing up to 400 kg, depending on the products contained, the manipulator's gripping tool uses a modular system of 6 suction pads in line, with a vacuum generated by a multi-stage "Venturi" injector. Connected to the manipulator's terminal arm, the gripping tool benefits from an ingenious vertical arm system on which the suction cups are mounted, enabling drums to be picked up, lifted, moved and set down, adapting perfectly to the proportions of each part to be handled, without any effort.

In this particular case, the Dalmec Partner Equo PEC articulated arm manipulator has been designed and built to perform repetitive and particularly meticulous manipulations, offering a large radius of action of up to 3500 mm for a maximum force of 400 kg.

Tailor-made to the dimensions of the part being handled, the suction cup gripper tool will easily enable cardboard drums to be picked up in a balanced way, while holding them in a perfect vertical position. Last but not least, this new manipulator can be fully integrated into cramped working environments, thanks to its evolutive structure and the infinite possibilities of varying the shapes and dimensions of the terminal arm.

Using compressed air as its sole energy source, the new manipulator offers users a high degree of maneuverability. As a result, the operator can move the load anywhere in the work area, with the utmost ease and in optimum ergonomic and safety conditions. All movements in the space are free, and are achieved with minimal effort, simply by the operator's direct action on the gripping tool or manual guidance on the load itself. Physical effort and the risk of RSI are thus totally eliminated, with improved working conditions and, ultimately, a remarkable gain in safety and productivity for operators.
